Dome Disaster by FTB

This map was developed by Feed The Beast as a followup to Egg Hunt RTX. The map improves on it's predecessor with additional minigames and an exterior low gravity environment and oxygen system.

About

Dome Disaster is an egg hunt challenge map set in an offworld sciency colony. It features casual and speedrunner modes, a number of small minigames, an exterior low gravity mechanic, many easter eggs, and a vast science habitat to explore.

My Role

I worked on the exterior mechanics and minigames for this project. The exterior low gravity and oxygen mechanic was designed to add a time pressure to exterior exploration. This served two goals. Firstly, the maximum distance the player could travel from the airlock limited how much of the maps exterior could be explored. This contained players to within the areas which had been detailed and provided a believable reason to stop the player from travelling beyond the bounds of the map. The second goal was to increase the challenge of searching for eggs in the compromised dome and surrounding exterior area.

The primary minigame in the map revolved around the correct sorting of packages into their respective sorting depots. To unlock the egg held by the minigame a player must deliver enough packages in the given time frame.
